ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 1, 2023 – The Motley Fool Foundation (TMFF), a public charity dedicated to Financial Freedom for all, is celebrating one year of creating pathways to Financial Freedom for those living paycheck to paycheck. The Foundation announced it will be expanding its suite of programming in the coming year, including its signature program, Financial Freedom Rule Breakers, which has made significant community investments in social entrepreneurs who directly impact the lives of more than 115,000 people.

“The economic success of our country depends on the ability of all Americans to thrive,” said Jennifer Gennaro Oxley, Executive Director of The Motley Fool Foundation. “Yet seven out of 10 Americans are financially unstable and are struggling to make ends meet and live a life of choice. Complex, deeply entrenched problems require bold, creative solutions. We acknowledge that the problems that prevent Financial Freedom for all run deep, and, along with The Motley Fool members, non-members, and our partners, we are leaning into solutions that address not only root systemic causes, but also supporting people living paycheck to paycheck today.”

The Foundation creates and supports community programming and actively seeks out solutions-oriented social innovators across the country who are building pathways within and across the five drivers of Financial Freedom: education, work, health, money and housing.

Today, the Foundation announced the addition of three Rule Breakers to round out its inaugural cohort, with mission startups that align with health, education, and housing. They are joining three existing Rule Breakers: Kimberly Driggins of Washington Housing Conservancy (WHC), José Quiñonez of Mission Asset Fund, and Tim Lampkin of Higher Purpose Co. This announcement underscores the Foundation’s commitment to achieving its goal of funding 25 Rule Breakers by 2025.

  • Dan Weidenbenner, Executive Director of Mill Village Ministries
  • Alexandra Bernadotte, Founder and CEO of Beyond 12
  • Bree Jones, Founder and CEO of Parity

By finding, funding, learning from, and amplifying these social entrepreneurs’ programs, the Foundation will be able to identify where there are gaps and opportunities to make much bigger impacts.

“We’ve been able to match the skills, passions, resources, and interests of The Motley Fool Foundation supporters with the needs of our Rule Breakers’ programming to help them scale further and faster,” said TMFF Program Director George Khalaf. “Each fellow in the program receives an unrestricted grant and is connected with key contacts in the Fool membership community who can help fuel their local efforts.”

“By investing in these Rule Breakers and following their lead, we are on track to grow our program impact by 10 times with each new Rule Breaker added to the program,” said David Gardner, co-founder and co-chairman of The Motley Fool, and Chief Rule Breaker.

“The Foundation's goal is to have us all imagine the possibilities when there are more members of our society who don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from or if their home will be taken away,” adds Gardner. “To celebrate the Foundation’s anniversary, we’re asking our community to think about this possibility and submit their stories on FoolFoundation.org.”
